A strong, muscular chest is one of the hallmarks of the ideal male physique. But for many body types the chest remains under-developed even after exercise and weight lifting. Pectoral implant surgery is an increasingly popular option for athletic men seeking a more sculpted look than they can achieve with working out alone.
Male pectoral implants are very different from female breast implants. They are made of solid silicone so, unlike a saline or gel breast implant, they won’t rupture or leak. Nevertheless, they are flexible and relatively soft, allowing for a very natural-looking result. Pectoral implants come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes or can be custom designed to attractively match your body type, proportions and ideal look. The implants are placed under the pectoral muscle therefore what is seen and felt after chest enhancement is your own natural muscles. The implants will not restrict movement in any way and any future muscle development will only be enhanced by the implant underneath.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours. You can expect to return home after a brief observation period. You will wear a compression vest underneath your clothes for several weeks to aid recovery. Typically light activity can be started within 2 to 4 weeks then working back to full activity within 6 to 8 weeks.
In certain instances, pectoral implants are used for reconstructive purposes to correct asymmetries (an unbalanced look) resulting from congenital or acquired (traumatic) defects. In these specific cases, pectoral implants improve or recreate the contour, thickness, and bulk of chest muscles. Because these types of cases are more involved and tailored to the specific needs of the situation, procedure and recovery times will vary.
